MC Education
MC Education stimulates people to look at themselves, the others and the city we live in with an open mind;
MC Education appeals to the participants' creativity and encourages an active and curious attitude;
MC Education shows young talents their opportunities in the professional arts and/or the creative industry;
MC Education opens a direct dialogue between MC and its audience;
MC Education develops both independent and programming-related educational programmes;
and in this respect it focuses primarily on the following target groups:
MC develops education projects for the third form and up in secondary education (lower secondary professional education (vmbo) and pre-university education (vwo). The permanent pillars in this context are: workshops for school kids, teaching packages and "MC takes over", as well as Theatre Advisory Day. All the youth education projects have been developed with 'Minds Connecting', our think tank for youths.
Workshops For School Kids Around Performances
(third form and up in higher general secondary or pre-university education)
MC organises workshops prior to school group visits to performances. These workshops take place in the MC Theatre or in one of the venues we play at during our tours. The subject matter of the performance forms the thematic starting point for the workshops. The pupils explore their relationship to this subject matter on the acting stage.
Do you have any questions regarding the education we offer? Or do you wish to book a workshop? Then please contact Johan van Aalst (+31 (0) 20 6065050 / johan@mconline.nl)
Basic Theatre Workshop (first form vmbo or vwo)
MC is one of the driving forces behind the platform called Theater Educatie Amsterdam. This platform developed the Basic Theatre Workshop. The workshop is intended for first formers who make their first contact with the theatre and theatre education through school. Questions central to the workshop are 'What's that something called theatre?' and 'What's expected of me as a theatre goer?'.
The workshops have a duration of 100 minutes and are given at school. The planning of the workshops is coordinated centrally.

Teaching Packages

MC Takes Over
Once a year, MC takes over the teaching programme of a class or form at school for a few days or, preferably, a whole week. MC's team of teachers develops a teaching programme in collaboration with the school's teachers on the basis of a preselected theme.
The school's teachers give a morning class in their own subject field; MC's teachers include this input when creating scenes with the pupils in the afternoon. On the final day, all the materials so created are combined into a performance.
This performance is presented, either at school or in the MC Theatre. In recent years, MC worked together with Caland Lyceum and Barlaeus Gymnasium in the context of MC Takes Over.

Theater advisory day
'This is the twenty-first century – art should be a part of everyone's upbringing so that it can be a part of everyone's life later on. How can young people know all that's going on if no one tells it to them?' – Jeanette Winterson
Amsterdam has a large number of theatres and companies that, together, offer a great diversity of performances. So there's something for every taste. At the same time, it isn't always easy to make a well-founded selection from the large supply. That's why MC joined forces with ten Amsterdam-based colleagues (companies and theatres) and why we organize the Theatre Advisory Day, this year being the sixth time around.
On this day, a well-informed selection from the supply of performances in the coming season is shown, substantive professional discussions are conducted and you will be informed about the educational programmes that let school pupils get better acquainted with the secrets of the theater.'
Look above for the video report of the Theater Advisory Day 2011.
There will be another Theater Advisory Day on Wednesday 30 May 2012.
This time in the MC Theater!
